School Holiday Events for Children

Every school holiday, each of our libraries has at least one event for local families to enjoy free of charge. The events might be seasonal (Christmas, Hallowe’en, Chinese New Year), connected to a theme (Black History, or the Summer Reading Challenge theme) or to satisfy different interests (learning, storytelling or crafts). One thing’s for sure, you’ll have a fun time in your local library.

Click here for more info about the next holiday programme (If the last programme shown has passed, the next programme has not yet been finalised).

To ensure places are allocated fairly and everyone enjoys our events safely, please take a minute to look at the guidance below.

Our events are free but we ask that children who attend our events are or become library members.  Most events are not ticketed (except where stated) but we may operate a queuing system before the start. For safety, the number of children admitted to events is limited to the advertised number. We give priority to families over organised groups when allocating places. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event. Children who we believe are younger than the advertised minimum age may not be admitted.

Winter Reading Challenge

CutOutParents and children love the Summer Reading Challenge so much they suggested we have a winter one! The Winter Reading Challenge starts on 1 December and ends on 28 February. The Challenge is for 4-11s but younger and older can join in. After each book, tell the staff about the books you’ve read, and collect a sticker on your progress card. Complete 6 books and you’ll get a certificate plus the chance to win a special prize. Click here to see more.
